Wildlife
One of the magical things about sailing is the quiet. It is mesmerizing to be gliding along on a calm evening, watching the sunset; the sea birds calling softly are the only sound. Even on windy days, the boat moves quietly through the water, enabling us to see creatures up close, in their natural environment. Harbor seals and gray seals pop up nearby almost every day, as do porpoise, a small cold-water whale. Occasionally, we see sea otters, and minke whales, although sighting them is rare. Peregrine falcons, bald eagles, osprey, loons, ducks, and guillemots, are also commonly spotted, although we never cease to be thrilled at the sight of them.
