Lobster Fishing
Lobster Fishing
Lobster fishing:
Lobster fishing is one of Maine’s oldest and most famous industries. In the very beginning, lobstermen hauled their traps by hand from small wooden rowboats; later, they began using traditional sailing vessels called Friendship sloops. Although Venture is not a Friendship Sloop, we still like to show what traditional lobster fishing was all about. Inside the traps we generally find an assortment of interesting sea creatures including crabs, sea cucumbers, star fish, sand dollars, sea urchins, fish, and hopefully, lobster; although, as with all fishing, sometimes the trap comes up empty.
